'Victory in Jesus' Hymn Gets a Rocking Cover

The beloved hymn “Victory in Jesus” has received a rocking cover. This rendition of the classic church hymn is unlike any you have ever heard, and that is for sure. Watch the short but thoroughly enjoyable clip to hear this rocking cover of the hymn “Victory in Jesus.”

Covers are an age-old practice and tradition that likely dates back to the origins of music itself. Seeing as how covers are arguably more popular than ever before, given the continued popularity of America’s Got Talent, American Idol, The Voice, YouTube and the like, it’s safe to say that they are here to stay.

Now, when it comes to covers, most typically think of more modern, secular songs getting the makeover treatment. For the most part, that is correct, and who doesn’t enjoy hearing someone else’s take on a song that everyone knows and loves? Who knows that cover may even end up being better than the original? The odds are that it won’t be the case, but in very rare instances, it has happened.

However, when covers, reimagining and the reworkings of songs are mentioned, hymns are very rarely, if ever, considered. When it comes to hymns, most people perform them as they were first written, never even giving them a second thought. But a clip posted on YouTube is of a young man who has taken “Victory in Jesus” in a completely different direction. He plays it as a rock song, with the very same lyrics that we all know and love, but just with some drums and a very different sound.

This is such a unique take on this hymn that you can’t help but have a smile on your face when you listen to it. Even if it’s not your thing, you still have to appreciate the effort and the fact that he tried something new, not just played it like everyone else ever since the song was first written.

Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

Book of Psalms Back to Songs: Psalm 36 - We Trust Your Love

Psalm 36 begins with a chilling sense of moral revulsion and dread at the depth of human wickedness and arrogance. It then soars into a state of boundless wonder, finding safety in the "fountain of life" and the vast, sky-high reach of God's unfailing love. The "Book of Psalms: Back to Songs" project is a creative endeavor to restore the original spirit of the #psalms - as songs of worship, lament, praise, and reflection-by transforming them back into musical form, as many were written. Drawing from modern translations of the classic biblical texts, this project reimagines the Psalms with fresh musical arrangements that blend timeless messages with modern sounds. Each Psalm is thoughtfully adapted into lyrical and melodic compositions, many using modern tools, to explore harmonies, instrumentation, and genre-blending arrangements. From soulful acoustic ballads and rock/pop hymns to country pieces and R&B-inspired tunes, the project seeks to make the Psalms accessible and resonate with today’s listeners, while staying true to their emotional and spiritual depth. -------- notes: Words updated for song lyrics Style: Retro Funk / Party Pop-Funk #PsalmsProject #ModernWorship #AncientWordsNewSound #ChristianMusic #WorshipMusic #FaithAndArt #ScriptureInSong #PraiseHim #Christian #Jewish #Bible #rock #praise #worship #pop #music #modern #BookofPsalms #christianmusician #scripture #PsalmsBackToSongs #FaithBasedMusic #Songwriter #MusicCreator #OriginalMusic #PsalmsProject #ModernPsalms #ScriptureToSong #ChristianArtist #NewMusic #PopWorship #PrayerMusic #CCM #funk

(w/m kevin McCullough)

(Instrumental)

[Verse 1]

A strangeness in the air

Helpless voices crying out

Transforming change ever elusive

Redemption's hope hanging dead

Madness you are unbecoming

Madman why are you?

[Chorus]

Man of madness

Man of shame

Blameless price

And priceless grace

Diseased and awkward all alone I stand

I'm but a madman

Following the man whose madness saved

[Verse 2]

A searching in the soul

Desperate heart is crying out

Transforming change ever elusive

The journey's end so far away

Madness you are not heroic

Madman, why are you?

[Chorus]

Man of madness

Man of shame

Blameless price

And priceless grace

Diseased and awkward all alone I stand

I'm but a madman

Following the man whose madness saves

[Bridge]

Diseased and awkward all alone I stand

I'm but a madman

Following the man whose madness

[Chorus]

Man of madness

Man of shame

Blameless price

And priceless grace

Diseased and awkward all alone I stand

I'm but a madman

Following the man whose madness

I'm but a madman

Following the man whose madness saves

Isaac Mather on Reimagining 'Grace Greater Than Our Sin' with Tommee Profitt

Isaac Mather shares a powerful full-circle moment as he steps into The Resurrection of a King.

On the red carpet at the world premiere, Isaac talks with Brandon Woolum about reimagining “Grace Greater Than Our Sin” and how the opportunity to work with Tommee Profitt came after years of being impacted by his music during a difficult health journey.

He opens up about the challenge of taking a traditional hymn and bringing it to life in a bold, cinematic way, including being pushed vocally to new heights in the studio. Isaac also reflects on the unforgettable experience of recording with a full orchestra and choir, describing the atmosphere as electric and unlike anything he has ever felt before.

For Isaac, this project is more than just a performance. It is a meaningful moment of faith, growth, and stepping into something bigger than himself.

Beloved Worship Songs Get Stunning Bluegrass Makeover

Beloved worship songs get a stunning bluegrass makeover in this creative cover by the Hudson Harmony Band. All of the sounds blend together so seamlessly. Play the video to hear it.

As the band appears over various beautiful landscapes in northern Arizona, they sing snippets from “I’ll Fly Away,” “I Can’t Feel at Home Any More,” and other Gospel hymns. The bluegrass worship cover sounds almost a little sped-up, but it may actually just be the fast pace of their fingers on their instruments—they are a very skilled group.

Along with the guitar, members also play the banjo, mandolin, and fiddle. Bluegrass worship covers are wonderful to hear. It’s always nice to hear a song you’ve heard many times reimagined in a different way.

Some of the lyrics from the medley, which are from “I Can’t Feel At Home An More,” are:

This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue;
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

The hymn first appeared in 1919 in “Joyful Meeting in Glory Song Book No. 1,”  but the author is unknown. It’s a shame because it’s such a thoughtfully and cleverly written song.

The first person to record the song was a blues singer named Sam Jones of Cincinnati, who recorded under the stage name Stovepipe No. 1. Since then, a number of artists have recorded and covered it, including the Arizona-based Hudson Harmony bluegrass band.

It sounds just as good–if not better–when sung in this bluegrass style. Hopefully, the Hudson Harmony Band has got more bluegrass worship covers planned for the future, too!

“For we know that if the earthly house of our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.” 2 Corinthians 5:1

Couple’s Stripped-Down Version of 'The Old Rugged Cross'

This couple’s stripped-down version of “The Old Rugged Cross” will lift your spirit today. You can’t go wrong with the harmonica, guitar, and birds chirping. Play the video to remind us of the hope we have in Jesus.

This couple's singing of "The Old Rugged Cross" is bringing glory to God through their cover of this sacred hymn. Some of the song’s lyrics are:

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.

The couple’s quaint porch setting makes the video feel very relaxed and laid back. It’s like you’ve just stepped over to your neighbors in the suburbs or country for a chat or Bible study. It’s very inviting, and it makes you just want to sing along. It’s refreshing to see this couple singing "The Old Rugged Cross.”

The Old Rugged Cross Was Written in 1913

The old hymn was written in 1913 by storied songwriter George Bennard. George was a coal miner turned preacher who worked with the Salvation Army. He got the inspiration for this hymn while reflecting on Christ’s crucifixion. The words came to his head: “I’ll cherish that old rugged cross.”

“I really didn’t write it. I was merely the instrument God used,” George said

The cross is a symbol we all know well. We should remember it with solidarity, as it is the instrument of our Savior’s death. More than a symbol of mourning, it’s a symbol of sacrifice and love. Because Jesus saved us from all of our sins through his death. We will for eternity be grateful to that old rugged cross.

“Who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
