A Blue Christmas

~~I’m sure a lot of people are feeling as I am, this morning; your heart is just broken for the families of those police officers that were gunned down in cold blood in their New York police cruiser over the weekend. I know, it seems like just another horrible incident in a lost and dying culture, but this story really hit me harder than most. One of my Dad’s legacies is that our family loves and respects police officers more than most. I think of my brother-in-law Bob, who’s now a detective, but served for years on the streets. When I consider what these men and women lay on the line, every time they respond to a call…frankly…I’m amazed that they continue to do it! Then, to think these two innocent men were simply seated in their police car, and were murdered in cold blood…I can’t deal with it, in my own strength…I just have to go to prayer.

Heavenly Father, it’s impossible sometimes to comprehend the depravity of man. But it should come as no surprise; you make it clear in Your Word that the human heart is desperately wicked—indeed—who can know it! YOU do, of course, Father God, and You Are in sovereign control of all things. So, teach us to trust in Your perfect will. And, I pray, please protect our policemen and women, our firefighters, those in service to our community, and our nation; protect them from people with vengeful hearts who would seek to do them harm. Heal our city, as we humble ourselves before You, in Jesus’ Name…Amen.
