A Place No Child Should Ever Be…

Children are growing in a garbage dump on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

They live in makeshift shelters with no running water or electricity, where the tarps and cardboard do nothing to keep out the dangerously cold sub-zero temperatures. Their parents work in the garbage dump, collecting recyclables for income. But the children spend their time here too — often working alongside their parents in this dangerous and highly toxic environment. Every year, children become disabled or even die when they fall off garbage trucks into the landfill.

But you can protect a child from these dangers. You can take a child out of the garbage dump each day and send them to school.

Just down the hill from the garbage dump is the Red Stone School. This informal, two-room school provides children with an education, a safe and warm place to spend their day, and a free hot lunch — often their only meal that day.

Your gift of $15 a month will help send a child to the Red Stone or another informal school for children living in poverty in Mongolia. Each child will also receive school supplies, books, a clean uniform, a warm coat and shoes, and a daily nutritious meal in addition to and a safe, warm place to learn.
