Murder charge after man dies in California hospital beating

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) —  A Southern California man has pleaded not guilty to assaulting and killing a fellow patient in their shared hospital room last month. Seventy-three-year-old Francisco Sanchez-Reyes died Feb. 8, more than a week after police say he was attacked at College Medical Center in Long Beach. Reginald Daniel Panthier was arrested Jan. 31, the day of the reported assault. He has pleaded not guilty to charges including murder. Investigators haven't identified a motive. Panthier is in custody on $1 million bail. He could face up to 50 years in prison if convicted.
