California has apparently found another problematic example of racism in the state – single family housing.

Townhall reports Mark Vallianatos of LAplus, a “think tank focused on planning and housing,” is arguing in favor of a new bill, SB 827, which would relax zoning regulations to allow for duplexes, apartment complexes and the like to take over sections of former single-family home neighborhoods.

Vallianatos argues that with about half of the city of LA zoned for single-family housing, it has “contributed to soaring housing costs” and has “also created profound racial and class segregation.”

He calls single-family zoning rules “race- and class-coded language” that is put in place intentionally “to restrict multifamily housing.”
