Notes From The Road - Tourists

The other day, I saw a commercial for Dell computers. The commercial talked about tourists. It reminded me that sometimes the word “tourist” is used in a derogatory manner. I’d like to change that. I love being a tourist. Being a tourist is not a bad thing depending on how you look at it. As far as I am concerned, today’s tourist is tomorrow’s engineer or scientist or business owner. A tourist today can be tomorrow’s oceanographer, geologist, astronaut, musician, actor, or artist. I love being a tourist and exploring the on and off-the-beaten-path places where history happened or where commerce transpired or where the ocean waves have lapped against the shore for millions of years. Wear the badge of “tourist” proudly on your “next” vacation and you never know the future “who” you may discover.
