While the Bible doesn’t specifically contain the word “gambling,” a number of passages urge good financial stewardship and warn against being foolish with money or get-rich-quick scenarios.
The Bible has a lotto say about money. But despite what many may think, the Bible and Jesus are not anti-wealth. If we look closer at this verse, we see that Paul specifies that the love of money is the root of all evil, not money itself. So let's take a look at this verse and how we can guard our own hearts against greed.
Bring your finances to the Lord, whether you are in plenty or want. He understands that we need them, but he doesn't want us to be burdened by money or possessions. Ask the Lord to show you where you are misplacing money in your life, and be willing to sacrifice where He asks you to.
Valentine’s Day does not need to break the bank to be an opportunity to spread some love and kindness to those around you. Be it a friend, a family member, or a romantic partner, you have a beautiful opportunity to offer something wonderfully thoughtful this year. It may even soften the heart of the most steadfast cynic of Valentine’s Day by giving a little softness and love to someone you care about.
There are plenty of Bible verses and stories about money, often focusing on those who are generous. But in this lesser-known parable, is Jesus angry at the rich man? As with all passages, it's important to look at the context. Let's see what Jesus is, and is not, saying in this story.
As Christians, we can get caught up in financial doctrines; however, let us remember that God doesn’t evaluate us based on our income bracket, what kind of car we drive, or what kind of house we live in—God sees our heart.
Father, thank you for being Yahweh-Jireh - "The Lord Will Provide." Thank you for all the examples you have given, in your Word, of how you provided for your children in the past. They are reminders of who you are, your character, and that you can be trusted to provide for me in every way.
Winter can feel long and draining, but it’s also full of quiet opportunities to connect with your children in meaningful ways. These simple, affordable ideas will help you make the most of your time together.
They teach that the more "faith" you have, the greater your influence over your circumstances. This goes against biblical teachings. We can pray for our situations, our wellness, and our financial security; however, God has not guaranteed those. If it's His will, He may give you what you asked for. Or, usually, I find He answers our prayers in a way we didn't expect that turns out better or different than what I was praying for.
