Interdenominational Prayer Movement Calls on Christians to Intercede for 'Christ-Centered Awakening' in America

With the war that’s going on between Russia and Ukraine, the military action taking place in Iran, and the newest threat in connection to the Strait of Hormuz and potential intensified military action in an effort to reopen Hormuz, there’s plenty to pray about right now. America and the world definitely need prayer. A multi-denominational, non-partisan, large group of leaders is coming together from across the nation to organize a movement they are calling “Prayer at the Heart.”

America’s ‘Crisis of Faith and Hope’

They feel there’s a “crisis of faith and hope,” a growing vortex of a lack of unity plaguing America, and that “only God’s intervention can save us,” project organizers told Christian Newswire. Their aspiration is to sign up one million Americans to pray for a “Christ-centered awaking” as Pentecost approaches (April 5th through May 24th).

From a Christian angle, Pentecost is the celebration of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit after Jesus ascended to heaven. That outpouring is noted in Acts chapter 2 of the Bible. Jesus’ apostles were filled with boldness and a supernatural ability to preach the Gospel in multiple languages that they didn’t previously know, which benefited multiple people groups in Jerusalem on that day. That passage of scripture goes on to note that there were about 3000 who accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior and were baptized that day.

One Million Intercessors Called to Pray for One Million Souls

As one million people across the nation pray during the lead-up to Pentecost this year, the prayer focus is that one million souls would be saved, according to the Prayer at the Heart website. From there, the organization plans to have outdoor gatherings in all 50 states for additional intercession for souls, as well as prayer gatherings in every state’s county as the nation’s 250th birthday approaches.

“It took a great awakening to give birth to our nation,” Dr. Douglas Small, the movement’s founder and executive director, told The Christian Newswire. “We want to bring real hope through Jesus Christ back to the center of Americans’ lives. We believe God will use this movement to change hearts, awaken faith in Christ, and renew hope across America.”

A few of many Christian leaders who are supporting the movement include Franklin Graham (President and CEO of Billy Graham Evangelistic Association), Doug Clay (General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, U.S.A.), Dr. David F. Nixon (District Superintendent Emeritus of Church of the Nazarene), Liz Adleta (Global Prayer Strategist who also serves in multiple national prayer ministries), and many others.
